On Friday, October 25, 2024, Olive Crest LA’s annual Trunk or Treat event was hosted at Cityline Church in Lakewood. Volunteers of the Fiato Foundation (Caleb Tsai, Andrew Yan, Chiara Del Rio-Ascolese, Jack Cuzzocrea, Andrew Pong, Ava David, and Martina Swiderski) had the opportunity to participate in this event for the second time, decorating their own car trunk and handing out sweet treats and toys to kids.
The preparation for the event started well in advance. Media Director of the Fiato Foundation, Chiara Del Rio-Ascolese sketched her vision for the trunk decor and design. Volunteers of the Fiato Foundation helped bring it to life during a Musicians for Service Club meeting held at El Segundo High School.
Volunteers were assigned separate roles in different groups. Each group worked together to fulfill their tasks of cutting out cardboard or coloring. The organization and communication between the members led to a successful completion of the decorations for the event day.
On the day of, volunteers of Fiato gathered at Cityline Church prior to the event and began to construct their Toy Story-themed scene. They filled their trunk with candy and toys that the kids loved. As they started to crowd around the trunk and say “Trick or treat!” volunteers gladly handed out both to them all. The purpose of the trunk or treat event is to create a safe space for children to go trick or treating. The children enjoyed the event, and the joy seen in their smiles brought happiness to all the volunteers at the event.

A small gesture can touch anyone’s heart. That was seen at the Trunk or Treat event by simple acts of service by handing out candy and toys to children. It may be a small gesture but it lifted the spirits of children who may be going through hardships. The Trunk or Treat was a memorable event that will be in the hearts of the volunteers and (hopefully) the children who attended too.
